The Belarusian Children's Hospice is conducting a series of seminars and training sessions in October and November 2009

As part of the «Developing community initiatives in improving quality of life for families of seriously ill children of Belarus affected by the Chernobyl accident» project, the Belarusian Children's Hospice is conducting a series of seminars and training sessions as listed below.

30.10.2009 Training for Parents «Learning the basics of palliative care and medicine»

Topics covered:

  • Psychological characteristics of a sick child
  • Prevention of burnout in parents
  • Social adaptation of the family of a sick child in the society
  • Enhancing self-esteem of parents looking after a sick child on a full-time basis

06.11.2009 Seminar for nurses and doctors «Psychological characteristics of interaction with the family of a sick child»

Topics covered:

  • Psychology of interaction with the relatives of a sick child
  • Child's comprehension of serious illness and his thoughts about death
  • Rules on delivering traumatic news to the family
  • Prevention of emotional burnout among doctors

13.11.2009 Training for volunteers «Specifics of palliative care»

Topics covered:

  • Specifics of palliative care for children
  • Psychological characteristics of families of seriously and terminally ill children
  • The medical foundations of palliative care
  • Prevention of burnout in people working with families of children with serious and terminal illness
